BYU 35, Utah State 17

Utah State gave a valiant effort and the last second touchdown made it seem closer than it really was, but the only thing that kept this one from getting boring was Max Hall’s repeated interceptions.

The defense did a pretty good job overall against an Aggie offense that has proven to be fairly potent. The offense was solid except for the turnovers. Not a great showing but not bad either by the Cougs. As long as the Cougars keep improving it should be a very interesting game in three weeks when TCU rolls into Provo. Next week is a trip to Vegas.

  1. Max’s interceptions have me shaking my head every game. If it was not for his connections to Pitta I would have found the game demoralizing. I liked the running game though.

  2. I didn’t see the game – for some reason I thought it was on today. Plus I was at a wedding reception that night.

That said, I don’t think you can say the defense did a good job when they kept Utah State (UTAH STATE!!!!) to 17. Wow.

I’m starting to think my original prediction of 3 loses this season is likely. I think if we keep playing like this there’s a good chance we lose at least one road game we should win.

  3. Clark, have you watched USU at all this year? Their offense is much improved over past years, averaging close to 30 points a game.

I’m glad we got a fairly easy win, but Hall’s 11 TDs to 10 INTs has me worried. The Cougs have the MWC cellar dwellers the next two weeks (UNLV and SDSU). A couple of big wins with a much better TD to INT ratio from Hall would help boost the team’s confidence going into the game against TCU.

  4. I’ve not watched them this year, but I have a hard time believing they are that much better than Colorado.

  5. Colorado? Do you mean Colorado State Clark?

If so I would say that the USU offense is probably better this year than the CSU offense. The BYU defense played very well.
