Name That Jewelry

September 21, 2006    By: Kristen J @ 3:37 pm   Category: Life

Alright I need some help. I make jewelry and I’ve been calling my little business KJ jewelry. How lame is that? It’s time for a change, I need a fun and not-taken name for my business.

My jewelry has a lot of silver and is colorful so I want the name to reflect a light-hearted feel. What do you think, can you help me out?

Give me only your best answers. Geoff has already been giving me dorky names so we’ve got that area covered. I can take fun/dorky but not dorky/dorky.

To sweeten the pot I will make a set of jewelry for the winner. If it’s a guy who wins who doesn’t happen to wear colorful, silver jewelry I will make it for the person of your choosing.

Good luck!

  1. Can you give an example of Geoff’s dorky/dorky suggestions for level-setting? I’d hate to suggest a fun/dorky name only to find out it is dorky/dorky.

  2. He thought “Retarded Girl Jewelry” would be good. He thought women everywhere would be clamoring to wear jewelry by that name.

  5. My 5yr old daughter wants you to call it “Kristen’s Pretties”

I’m inclined to go with your family’s theme of “Thang” and suggest:
    Kristen’s Thangs
    Pretty Thangs
    Bangles and Thangs
    Silver Thangs
    Treasure Thangs
    Charming Thangs
    Resplendent Thangs
    Argent Thangs

My husband just snuck up behind me and said that those also have a nasty connotation. Those that don’t know you may think other things…hmmm…I’ll keep thinking

  6. I like the Thangs angle. If I go with it I’ll just have to give all the dirty minded people a thrill with my jewelry name.

  7. Naming a business is hard. Make sure its easy for people to spell without having to see it written down. Make sure you have a domain name available so you can tell them go to ___.com to see your selection. Also, know what legal requirements exist in your area. In my area, for example, if I start a sole proprietorship and include my own name in the name of the business, I don’t have to register a DBA with the state, and so it saves money to be “Consulting by Jeff Day.”

  11. Simply Sterling

Short is always good, we have a restaurant called “Honest” John Fibbers. I thought the name was sheer genius, and not just because I thought of it. :) I thought of all the fun we could have with the name, but people just do not get it. Everyone wants to meet John. Only in Oklahoma!

We also have a little gift store called Where The Buffalo Roam where inexpensive sterling silver jewelry is our best seller. We buy most of it at market at Dallas, where most of it is made over seas because of the cheep labor. We live in what I call a Wal-Mart economy here, not a lot of disposable income. Good luck with the name.
