{"id":448,"date":"2007-09-27T10:13:02","date_gmt":"2007-09-27T17:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newcoolthang.com\/index.php\/2007\/09\/what-is-worship\/448\/"},"modified":"2020-01-09T05:51:02","modified_gmt":"2020-01-09T12:51:02","slug":"what-is-worship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.newcoolthang.com\/index.php\/2007\/09\/what-is-worship\/448\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Worship?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cjones brought up a question on<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newcoolthang.com\/index.php\/2007\/09\/how-many-gods-are-there\/447\/#comment-106339\"> a previous thread<\/a> that I was planning on posting on.<\/p>\n<p>As Christians, we worship God.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nWhat does that mean?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/worship\">dictionary.com<\/a> gives plenty of pretty definitions, using terms like &#8220;reverent honor&#8221; and &#8220;homage&#8221; or &#8220;adoring reverence or regard.&#8221; and I don&#8217;t dispute these terms, but they are all pretty subjective, and full of little questions of nuance. <\/p>\n<p>After all if <a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/reverence\">reverence<\/a> is &#8220;deep respect tinged with awe&#8221; then I can say I probably have worshipped my wife, my parents, my children, Darius Gray, President Hinckley, butterflies, and George Lucas (prior to episode1 being released, of course). However I obviously don&#8217;t worship these in the way I worship God.<\/p>\n<p>So the word &#8220;Worship&#8221;, as defined, somewhat fails me. In another thread, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newcoolthang.com\/index.php\/2007\/09\/how-many-gods-are-there\/447\/#comment-106352\">Blake Ostler <\/a>said &#8220;However, only the Godhead is entitled to worship&#8221; . This still fits with the above definition but adds nuance, as the key point is &#8220;entitlement&#8221;. Other items may be worthy of our worship, in the subjective sense, but it is only divine triad who we are currently <a href=\"http:\/\/scriptures.lds.org\/en\/search?type=words&#038;last=worship&#038;help=&#038;wo=checked&#038;search=worship&#038;iw=dc&#038;tx=checked&#038;af=checked&#038;hw=checked&#038;sw=checked&#038;bw=1\">commanded to worship<\/a>. Even then, the focus is on the Father. <\/p>\n<p>Is this all that worship is? By looking to the definitions, am I missing the <em>praxis<\/em>? or is the <em>praxis<\/em> chaff? <\/p>\n<p>It seems to be that the greatest worship is emulation and belief that if others emulate as well, the world will be a better place. Much of the <em>praxis<\/em> can be boiled down to this.<\/p>\n<p>What is worship to you?
