First, if rumors are true and false doctrines were found in "Mormon Doctrine", I wish something similar had been done both in alerting the Saints and in apology. Second, Orson may have had the last laugh because his dismissal of the Adam-God doctrine, which was embraced by Pres. Young and others of the General Authorities, surfaced later to become the doctrine of the Church. Life is such a mixed bag. Orson Pratt thought the Holy Ghost was only a personage in the sense that when a person is full of this "fluid" substance, and because it filled up the shape of their body, it was then in the form of a person. Imagine pouring water into a cup. The water is now, as a whole, in the shape of a cup, because that is the shape of the container it is in. In this way, Orson Pratt thought the Holy Spirit was a personage--but not an actual spirit child of God, as Heber C. Kimball says. The Holy Spirit was such a hot topic back in those days.
